A one-day Intensive on practical strategies
for implementing person-centered care

Eagle Eye Golf Club, 15500 Chandler Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823
CE contact hours available for Nurses, Social Workers, Administrators and Activity Directors
Introduction
We are pleased to introduce a new series of Edna Gates Applied Dementia
Care Workshops. These are one-day intensive sessions that will follow an
Edna Gates Conference on Alzheimer's Care and Lillian and James Portman
Conference Celebrating Direct Care Workers. Each workshop offers in-depth
examination of practical strategies for implementing an innovative care
practice or evidence-based program featured at one of the conferences.
Program components include organization culture, program design,
implementation and evaluation.
Achieving Outcomes That Really Matter in Dementia Care
focuses on staff development, a critical investment for growing skills and
reaching quality outcomes. Person-centered care begins with the design,
delivery and implementation of effective approaches for learning and staff
development. Exceptional learning experiences are those which enrich and
transform both our professional and personal lives.
Don't miss out on this unique educational opportunity to spend a dynamic
day with David M. Sheard, Founder and CEO of Dementia Care Matters
and developer of Feelings Matter Most, a six-part dementia care training
and staff development series. We are very pleased to bring David Sheard
from the United Kingdom for this follow-up applied dementia care workshop.

Take Your Child to Work Day at UHHS

Posted 4-29-2011

UHHS employees' children participated in a fun-filled, educational day here at United's office on Take Your Child To Work Day on Thursday, April 28. Children of various ages learned about home health care, the role of nurses and therapists in the home, how to apply bandages, different strengthening and balance exercises using therabands and balls, the importance of handwashing, and how to set up a pill box (using colorful jelly beans!) They also had the chance to try out medical equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers.

The kids had a blast trying on the personal protective equipment. The day ended making home-made get well cards for our patients. The pizza lunch was a big hit too!

Thank you to all UHHS employees for making this such a great day for the kids!

UHHS Welcomes New Medical Director!

Posted 5-31-2011

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Judy Edge as our new Medical Director. "We are honored and privileged to have Dr. Edge join the United team. Together we will focus on achieving positive patient outcomes, maintain our tradition of home health excellence and caring, and enhance physician communication", notes UHHS President Penny Rhein. "Dr. Edge is truly an advocate for home care and her patients so it is a perfect fit!"

"It is with great enthusiasm that I join the staff at UHHS as their Medical Director. After giving a brief lecture to United's staff I was impressed at what a professional, intelligent and caring group they are. It is my goal to improve and bridge the flow of care between doctor, nurse, and patient," states Dr. Edge, who is an Internal Medicine physician affiliated with Garden City Hospital since 1989. She has a special interest in the geriatric population.

UHHS thanks outgoing Medical Director Dr. Rosemarie Tolson for her 7 years of dedicated service. Dr. Tolson is now pursuing other interests at MSU but will graciously remain on United's Board to represent us in the community.
